I have called this meeting because everyone keeps saying, “We should probably discuss that,” and then immediately running into the rainforest.
This is not efficient.
Also, somebody moved my fruit bowl.
Until the matter is resolved, all team members will remain seated, alert, and absolutely not pretending they have urgent jungle business.
I can see you, Tom.
Agenda Item One: Protect the Amazon
The rainforest remains the priority.
We check for damaged trees, polluted water, unsafe trails, and signs of illegal deforestation. We listen to local knowledge. We avoid disturbing wildlife. We leave every camp cleaner than we found it.
This is the serious part of the meeting.
The Amazon is not just where we work. It is home to countless plants, animals, communities, rivers, and very many insects that believe personal space is a myth.
Dr. Mubari has prepared a short environmental checklist.
It is six pages long.
He says this is “short.”
I respect science. I do not respect six-page checklists before breakfast.
Agenda Item Two: Team Assignments
Tom “Primal” Swift : Heavy Lifting
Tom will handle blocked paths, fallen branches, damaged equipment, and anything else that requires considerable strength.
He will not arm-wrestle a tree.
This rule exists because of the Incident of the Very Stubborn Ceiba.
Tom says the tree started it.
The tree has declined to comment.
Dr. Mubari : Science and Sensible Decisions
Dr. Mubari will test water quality, study plant samples, and remind everyone that “mysterious glowing puddle” is not a complete scientific description.
He will also keep the team supplied with useful information.
Unfortunately, he cannot keep Tom from touching things labeled DO NOT TOUCH.
We have tested this theory several times.
Sunbyte : Technology and Communications
Sunbyte will monitor communications, track environmental data, and make sure the team’s equipment is working.
She will also confiscate any device that Tom claims is “probably fine.”
Sunbyte has already confiscated three devices this morning.
One of them was a toaster.
Nobody knows why Tom brought a toaster into the rainforest.
Jungle Dart : Reconnaissance
Jungle Dart will scout ahead, identify safe routes, and notice danger before the rest of us step directly into it.
This is a valuable skill.
It is also frustrating when she quietly points out that the obvious path is a trap after Tom has already walked halfway down it.
Jungle Dart says this builds character.
I believe she is correct.
Alpha : Meeting Facilitation
I will coordinate the team, monitor the canopy, translate urgent concerns, and maintain snack security.
This is a large responsibility.
Especially the snack security.
Agenda Item Three: New Morning Protocol
Effective immediately:
- No one leaves camp without water.
- No one touches unfamiliar plants without Dr. Mubari’s approval.
- No one follows a suspicious trail without Jungle Dart.
- No one connects unknown equipment to Sunbyte’s laptop.
- No one schedules a meeting before I have eaten.
The fifth rule is non-negotiable.
Agenda Item Four: The Oops Report
Every successful mission includes at least one mistake.
This is normal.
The important thing is to notice the mistake before it becomes a larger mistake with smoke, sparks, or yelling.
Today’s oops report:
- Tom sat on a folding camp stool. The stool has entered retirement.
- Dr. Mubari labeled one sample “interesting.” This is not specific enough for the database.
- Sunbyte’s tablet received seventeen messages from a frog.
- Jungle Dart disappeared for eleven minutes and returned with a better route, two feathers, and no explanation.
- I accidentally stamped the meeting agenda with a pawprint.
The pawprint improves the document.
I will be stamping all future documents.
Agenda Item Five: Morale
Protecting the rainforest is serious work. It requires courage, patience, science, teamwork, and the ability to remain calm when something large moves in the bushes.
It also requires laughter.
The Rainsavers are strongest when everyone brings something different:
- Tom brings determination.
- Dr. Mubari brings knowledge.
- Sunbyte brings technology.
- Jungle Dart brings local skill and sharp instincts.
- I bring perspective, excellent climbing ability, and a superior understanding of fruit storage.
Together, we can help protect the Amazon from deforestation and the people who think a living rainforest is merely an obstacle between them and a profit margin.
That is why we keep going.
Also, the forest has better meeting rooms.
Final Decision
The meeting is adjourned.
Tom is assigned to repair the camp stool.
Dr. Mubari is shortening the checklist.
Sunbyte is investigating the frog messages.
Jungle Dart is scouting the breakfast route.
I am investigating the missing fruit.

Tom is looking nervous.
