Meta description: Dr. Mubari’s leaked 2026 field notes reveal the secrets of red mercury, German wartime research, ancient weapons, the Spirit Tree formula, and Mortalis’s dangerous obsession.

DOCUMENT STATUS: Declassified-ish
AUTHOR: Dr. Manelo Mubari
DATE: September 12, 2026
LOCATION: Canopy One Research Base, Amazon Basin
SECURITY LEVEL: Please stop Alpha from reading this upside down

If you are reading this, one of three things has happened:

  1. Sunbyte bypassed the security system again.
  2. Alpha discovered the password.
  3. I left my terminal unlocked while searching for my missing field boots.

The third option is the most likely.

Either way, welcome to my notes on red mercury: the glowing, crystalline energy source connected to German wartime research, ancient weapon systems, the Spirit Tree, and one deeply unpleasant man named Leonard West.

Or, as he prefers to be called now:

Mortalis.

Field Note 01: Red Mercury Is Not a Normal Battery

Let us begin with the basics.

Red mercury is not a harmless mineral, a novelty fuel, or something you should keep in a decorative jar beside your houseplants. It is a highly energetic crystalline substance with properties that appear to ignore several laws of physics, chemistry, and common sense.

The crystals produce a low, steady vibration when exposed to certain electromagnetic fields. The sound is almost musical. Imagine a swarm of bees humming inside a metal lunchbox.

Now imagine that lunchbox powering an ancient weapon.

Exactly. Not ideal.

Our current research suggests that red mercury can:

  • Store extraordinary amounts of energy.
  • Interface with biological tissue.
  • Amplify electromagnetic fields.
  • Activate dormant technology.
  • React with organic matter in unpredictable ways.
  • Connect with the energy network surrounding the Spirit Tree.

That final point is the reason Mortalis is so determined to collect every crystal he can find.

Red mercury is not simply fuel. It is a key.

And somewhere in the world, there are locks it was designed to open.

Field Note 02: The German Connection

The earliest modern records we have found point to secret German research programs during the 1940s. Scientists working in hidden facilities were studying unusual energy systems, experimental propulsion, genetic alteration, and ancient artifacts recovered from archaeological sites.

Their research was fragmented, dangerous, and often based on incomplete information. That did not stop them from building machines.

Some of those machines were designed to use red mercury as a power source. Others attempted to use the crystals as a bridge between technology and living organisms.

The results were not encouraging.

One damaged document refers to red mercury as “crimson energy.” Another calls it “the blood of the world.” A third contains a diagram that looks like a reactor, a tree, and a human nervous system all connected together.

Sunbyte says the diagram is a technical schematic.

Alpha says it is a map.

I say it is probably both, which is the sort of answer that makes everyone uncomfortable.

The researchers understood one important truth: red mercury behaves differently depending on what surrounds it. Inside a machine, it can create a powerful energy field. Inside a biological system, it can trigger rapid changes at the cellular level.

That discovery eventually led to the Black Rain experiments, and to the technology Leonard West would later use against us.

Oops Moment #1: The Blueprint Incident

During an examination of a German research document, I spilled coffee across the lower corner.

Before anyone panics, the document was already a digital scan.

Before anyone asks, yes, I spilled coffee on the scanner too.

The good news: the liquid revealed a hidden layer of writing beneath the surface. The bad news: the scanner began smoking and now produces a faint smell of burnt hazelnut.

Sunbyte has labeled it “the most expensive coffee filter in the Amazon.”

She is not wrong.

Field Note 03: Ancient Weapons, Modern Problems

Red mercury becomes especially dangerous when connected to ancient weaponry.

Across several expeditions, the Rainsavers have encountered machines that appear to predate modern engineering by centuries: or possibly much longer. These devices are not simple swords, spears, or mechanical traps. They are energy systems disguised as relics.

Some were carved into stone. Others were hidden beneath ice, buried under desert rock, or sealed inside chambers that had no obvious entrance.

The common feature is a repeating symbol: a branching pattern resembling roots, veins, or lightning.

We believe these weapons were built to respond to the same energy frequency as the Spirit Tree.

That means the Spirit Tree may not simply be a source of life. It may also be part of an ancient planetary system: one capable of healing ecosystems, powering machines, or destroying entire regions if controlled by the wrong person.

This is where Mortalis’s obsession becomes more than a personal threat.

He is not collecting red mercury because it looks impressive in a dark room, although it does look extremely impressive in a dark room.

He believes the crystals can give him access to a system that links ancient weapons, biological energy, and global weather patterns.

He may be right.

That is the problem.

Field Note 04: The Spirit Tree Formula

The crystals are only one piece of the puzzle.

The second piece is what West calls the Red Formula.

We first heard about it during the Antarctic expedition documented in Tempest of the Crimson Skies. West had followed clues to a buried German research station beneath the ice, convinced that the facility contained the missing instructions for stabilizing red mercury.

He was not searching for a formula in the ordinary sense. There was no single page covered in neat equations.

The Red Formula appears to be a combination of:

  • A sequence of energy frequencies.
  • A biological activation pattern.
  • A method for synchronizing red mercury with living tissue.
  • A map of the Spirit Tree’s deeper energy network.
  • Instructions for operating ancient weapons without destroying the operator.

The final item is especially important.

Most red mercury systems are unstable. They produce enormous energy, but they also create heat, radiation, biological mutations, or sudden structural failure.

West wanted to solve that problem by using Primal’s DNA.

He did not want to operate the machine.

He wanted to become the machine.

Field Note 05: Character Spotlight : Mortalis

Former identity: Leonard West
Current designation: Mortalis
Primary fixation: Red mercury crystals
Secondary fixation: Control
Recommended response: Do not negotiate near an active reactor

Leonard West was already dangerous before his transformation. He was strategic, patient, and very comfortable treating people as pieces on a board.

Red mercury gave him the opportunity to turn that mindset into physical power.

Using stolen DNA from Tom “Primal” Swift, along with advanced red mercury technology, West transformed into Mortalis. The result is not simply a stronger version of Leonard West. It is a new biological and technological system built around his desire for control.

Mortalis possesses:

  • Enhanced strength and endurance.
  • Heightened reflexes and sensory awareness.
  • Red mercury energy circulating through his body.
  • A tactical mind shaped by years of covert operations.
  • The ability to interface with advanced machines.
  • An unhealthy interest in standing dramatically in front of glowing machinery.

His appearance reflects the transformation. His black suit is threaded with faint red energy lines, like cracks running through volcanic stone. His eyes remain recognizably West’s, which may be the most unsettling detail of all.

The transformation did not erase Leonard West.

It gave Leonard West more power.

Mortalis sees red mercury as proof that nature, history, and human biology can all be conquered through sufficient force. He believes the Spirit Tree is not a living system deserving protection. To him, it is an energy source waiting to be claimed.

That is where he and the Rainsavers fundamentally disagree.

We see power as a responsibility.

Mortalis sees power as ownership.

Oops Moment #2: The “Do Not Touch” Button

During a remote scan of a Mortalis-grade crystal, Alpha pressed a button labeled DO NOT TOUCH.

I would like the record to show that Alpha cannot read English.

I would also like the record to show that the button was bright red and practically inviting him to touch it.

The containment chamber activated, every light in the lab went out, and Alpha’s harness began transmitting Morse code.

The message translated to:

“Worth it.”

I have added a second lock.

Field Note 06: Why the Rainsavers Are Concerned

Red mercury is powerful, but power alone is not the real danger.

The danger comes from combining red mercury with:

  • Ancient weapon systems.
  • German wartime research.
  • Genetic experimentation.
  • A functioning reactor.
  • The Spirit Tree formula.
  • A villain who thinks restraint is a character flaw.

Mortalis has already demonstrated that he can use red mercury to activate technology on a massive scale. His reactor beneath the Giza Plateau threatened the Nile and millions of people. His experiments have shown that the crystals can alter living systems. His pursuit of the Spirit Tree places the entire Amazon at risk.

If Mortalis succeeds, the consequences will not remain in one laboratory or one rainforest.

He could potentially control the energy moving through the Spirit Tree and redirect it through red mercury-powered systems across the world.

The rainforest would become a weapon.

The planet would become a laboratory.

And Mortalis would insist that this was all part of the plan.

Final Field Note: Handle With Care

There is a lesson here, although I admit it is not a cheerful one.

Technology is not automatically good because it is advanced. Ancient does not automatically mean wise. Scientific discovery does not excuse cruelty. And an energy source that can power a city can also destroy one if placed in the hands of someone who confuses possession with stewardship.

Red mercury may be the most powerful substance we have encountered.

But the real battle is over what happens next.

Will it be used to heal damaged ecosystems and protect life?

Or will Mortalis use it to force the natural world into obedience?

For now, the Rainsavers are still standing between the crystals and the Spirit Tree. Tom is preparing for another field mission. Sunbyte is attempting to rebuild the scanner. Alpha has acquired my third pair of boots.

And I am locking this terminal.

Probably.

Dr. Mubari out.
